7 Great VH1 Hip Hop Honors Performances

VH1 has hosted 7 VH1 Hip Hop Honors shows (between 2004 and 2010).

Hip Hop Honors honored old school and Golden Age Hip Hop artists with live performances by most of the honorees along with new school artists who were influenced by them. The shows were taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York City.

We have selected 7 of the best Hip Hop Honors performances for your enjoyment – check it out!

1. Big Daddy Kane Tribute (2005)

Featuring TI, Common, Black Thought & Big Daddy Kane with Biz Markie DJing & Questlove on the drums.

Great build up from Common and Black Thought, with Big Daddy Kane himself blowing the roof off the house when he comes out to finish things with “Warm It Up Kane”. Legendary material!

2. Slick Rick Tribute (2008)

Featuring MC Lyte, Busta Rhymes, Ghostface Killah, Biz Markie, Fabulous, Dana Dane, and Eve.

Another great tribute, with Busta Rhymes & Ghostface Killah stealing the show. Awesome atmosphere!

3. Run DMC Tribute (2004)

Featuring Beastie Boys (& Doug E Fresh) performing Run DMC‘s Sucker MC’s

Watch the all-star balcony and especially note KRS One‘s reaction when Doug E Fresh joins the Beasties on stage.

4. LL Cool J Tribute (2009)

Featuring Black Thought, Eminem & DJ Jazzy Jeff

Great performances by Thought and Em; and be sure to watch until the end to see how Jazzy Jeff finishes things – is there a better Hip Hop DJ?

5. Eric B & Rakim Tribute (2006)

Featuring Talib Kweli, Raekwon, Styles P, Kid Capri & Rakim

6. Beastie Boys Tribute (2006)

Featuring QTip, PDiddy, Fabulous & Mix Master Mike & Beastie Boys

7. Ice T Tribute (2005)

Featuring Snoop Dogg
